Photo-Report On the Greeting of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God in the Ukrainian Capital 

On the evening of May 13, 2010, the main holy icon of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God “of the Sign,” arrived in Kiev. The miracle-working icon was brought to the Ukrainian capital from Munich by a delegation of the Russian Church Abroad headed by His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Berlin and Germany and a delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church headed by His Grace Bishop Aleksandr of Pereyaslavl’ and Khmel’nitsk.    

The miraculous icon was welcomed at the construction site of Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Kiev by His Beatitude Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, the First Hierarch of ROCOR, His Eminence Archbishop Pavel of Vyshgorod, His Eminence Archbishop Mitrofan of Belotserkov and Boguslav, His Eminence Archbishop Anthony of Borispol; His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Yagotino; His Grace Bishop Panteleimon of Vasil’kov; the clergymen of the Kiev Diocese and a multitude of worshipers.   

The icon was taken on a procession of the cross to the plaza before the wooden Church of All Saints, where His Beatitude Vladyka Vladimir performed a moleben.

“The Mother of God has arrived to this holy place today which has been blessed for the construction of a cathedral in honor of the Resurrection of Her beloved Son,” said Metropolitan Vladimir to the worshipers. “We believe that the Mother of God is always with us. And today, in this miracle-working icon, She blesses us, bowing before Her Son, praying for our salvation.”   

After divine services, the Kursk-Root Icon was brought to the Church of All Saints, where His Beatitude and the other hierarchs venerated the icon.   

The Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God will remain in the Church of All Saints from May 13-May 22.
