The 2nd Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of South America is Held in Argentina
In accordance with a decision by the IV Pan-Orthodox Preconciliar Conference held in Chambesy, Switzerland, from November 2-4, 2011, the 2nd Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of South America was held in Buenos Aires.
Participating in this gathering were hierarchs of the Patriarchates of Constantinople, Moscow and Serbia, and the Polish Orthodox Church. Representing the Russian Orthodox Church were His Eminence Metropolitan Platon of Argentina and South America and His Grace Bishop John of Caracas of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
On November 3, the members of the Assembly celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Serbian Church of the Nativity of the Most-Holy Mother of God in Buenos Aires.
The Assembly formed committees to study inter-church relations in the diaspora, canonical and liturgical topics, problems of religious education and catechization. It was decided that the 3rd Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of South America would be held in November 2012 in Caracas, Venezuela.
