The Sisterhood of St Seraphim Church Receives a Letter of Thanks from Svyatogorsk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church
As reported earlier, St Seraphim Parish Sisterhood in Sea Cliff, NY, headed by Elizabeth Mikheev, started a collection for aid for refugees of the humanitarian catastrophe in Donbass. Over five thousand dollars was collected by the Nativity of Christ and passed onto the Svyatogorsk Lavra of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
The sisterhood just received a letter of thanks from Archimandrite Feofan, the monastery’s treasurer, in which he wrote the following: “Dear Sisters in the Lord: We greet you on the upcoming feast day of the Presentation of the Lord! We received your monetary transfer and spent them on humanitarian purposes. We send our heartfelt thanks to you for your mercy and empathy to the Orthodox people who suffered during the military actions and who found temporary haven in our monastery. There are over 700 refugees in the lavra now, mostly from Debaltsevo, and the number keeps growing. Thanks to such caring people as you, we are able to provide them with help. At the present time, such transfers are the only source of financing for the monastery. We ask your holy prayers. May the Lord save you!”
Collections by the sisterhood are continuing, and donations can be sent to St Seraphim Sisterhood, St Seraphim Church, 131 Carpenter Ave., Sea Cliff, NY 11579.
