A monastic tonsure in Russian Gethsemane

On the eve of the feast of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God, November 27/December 10, 2020, after all-night vigil, rassaphore-nun Anna (Bobkova) was tonsured into the small schema.

During the chanting of the stichera “Embrace of the Father”, the abbess of the convent, Mother Elisabeth (Smelic), led the sister to the Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), who tonsured sister Anna with the name of Olympiada, in honor of Holy Deaconess Olympiada (July 25/August 7).

Mother Olympiada labored for many years in the Bethany community of the Resurrection of the Lord. In recent years, the newly tonsured nun has been carrying various obediences in the Convent of St Mary Magdalene.
