Nun Seraphima (Abadd) is appointed Vicar of Gethsemane Convent in Jerusalem

Pursuant to a decree of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia dated February 9/22, 2022, the sexton of the Convent of St Mary Magdalene in the Garden of Gethsemane, Nun Seraphima (Abadd) was elevated to the rank of Vicar of this monastery. During Divine Liturgy on the Sunday of St Thomas at the minor entrance, the Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), led Mother Seraphima to His Eminence Metropolitan Mark (Arndt) of Berlin and Germany, who announced the Synodal decree and placed a golden pectoral cross upon her while singing “Axia" ("she is worthy").

Mother Seraphim has been a member of the sisterhood of the monastery since 1956. She carried all the obediences at the convent for all these years. She is the caretaker of the altar and the ecclesiarch of the kliros. As Vicar, Mother Seraphima is an assistant to Abbess Elisabeth (Smelic) in the administration of the monastery.
