On August 1, 2022, with the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany and His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe, a dual-diocese pilgrimage has begun in the Holy Land. Some 50 pilgrims from the Church Abroad’s two dioceses in Europe have gathered in the Holy Land for two weeks of Divine Services, visits to holy sites, and other ecclesiastical and spiritual activities in the lands sanctified by the earthly life of our Saviour and His Holy Apostles and Disciples. The pilgrimage is being jointly headed by Metropolitan Mark and Bishop Irenei, and is being hosted by the Church Abroad’s Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, which is the guardian of the Russian Orthodox spiritual heritage in the Holy Land. The Diocese of Great Britain and Western Europe and its parishes organize generally between 5-15 pilgrimages each year, some to sites beyond the lands of the Diocese itself - such as to the Holy Land, Serbia, Russia and Ukraine, Mt Athos, etc. - as well as to the sites of the many saints of our Diocese itself, ranging in extent from single-day pilgrimage excursions to pilgrimages of several weeks. We wish a blessed and sanctifying pilgrimage to all those taking their first steps in the Holy Land! orthodox-europe.org
