SANTIAGO: 29 July 2026 On Thursday, 23 July, 2026, His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America arrived in Santiago, Chile, to lead services at Holy Trinity-Kazan Icon of the Mother of God Church. At Santiago Airport, His Grace was greeted by the parish rector, Priest George Mashtaler, who recently arrived here from Western Europe, and Deacon Roberto León. The next day, on Friday, July 24, Bishop John received Archpriest George Abed, the representative of the Antiochian Orthodox Church in Chile. During the conversation, His Grace John and Fr George touched on the historical ties linking the Antiochian and Russian Orthodox Churches Abroad in this country. Afterwards, His Grace met with the leadership of the Russian Circle organization, which has supported the parish in Santiago for decades. On Saturday, July 25, Bishop John led all-night vigil at Holy Trinity Church, and the next day Divine Liturgy, attended by a large gathering of parishioners and worshipers. During the sermon, His Grace tearfully honored the Most-Blessed Virgin Mary and her icons, through which believers feel Her presence and help. Fr George warmly welcomed Bishop John, wishing him many years of life and fruitful pastoral service. Afterwards, a festive luncheon was offered, where the parishioners expressed their gratitude to Bishop John for his visit and for the appointment of their new abbot. On Tuesday, July 28, His Grace departed for Buenos Aires. |
