Biography of Archimandrite Job (Bandmann), Selected as Bishop of Stuttgart
Archimandrite Job (Bandmann), born John Lionel in Berlin on 29 August 1982, received a classical German education, studying Greek and Latin. From 2002-2003, he served in the military. In September 2003, he was accepted by the brethren of St Job of Pochaev Monastery in Munich. On 10 November 2006, he was ordained a reader. In 2009, he graduated the Munich University Ludwig-Maximilian Theological Department and is presently writing his doctor’s thesis on theology under the guidance of a university professor. In June 2012, he was tonsured to the rassa. Fr Job has performed various duties in the monastery for over 16 years. He is charged with some of the more important tasks there: from computer technology to printing, including the layout and preparation of new books and journals. In accordance with a report by His Eminence Metropolitan Mark, the brethren and pilgrims turn to him for advice and help in all sorts of matters, and he never declines to help. Hegumen Job is also musically gifted: he is one of the monastery’s choir directors and educated many singers, deacons and priests who perform the forty-day service at St Job Monastery. In 2016, Fr Job was tonsured to the minor schema and ordained a hierodeacon, and in 2018, to Hieromonk with the awarding of a gold pectoral cross by the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. On November 10, 2020, the feast day of the monastery, he was elevated to the rank of hegumen and awarded the palitsa and ornamented cross. On December 8, 2020, the Synod of Bishops made the following decision:
“During a session of the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, held remotely on 25 November/8 December, 2020, HEARD: a report by the President of the results of a questionnaire of the eminent members of the Council of Bishops on the question of elected the cleric of the German Diocese, Hegumen Job (Bandmann) as Vicar Bishop of Stuttgart.
DECREED:
1) Having deliberated on the results of the questionnaire of the eminent members of the Council of Bishops (11 votes yea, two abstentions), to deem Hegumen Job (Bandmann), cleric of the German Diocese, elected as Bishop of Stuttgart, Vicar of the diocese.
2) In accordance with the ‘Act of Canonical Communion,’ to send a corresponding request for the confirmation of his election to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.
3) In case of a positive determination of the Holy Synod, to leave the date and place of his consecration to the decision of the President of the Synod of Bishops.”
